Iowa

Much like us not knowing precisely where we will be sleeping each night, we hadn’t given much thought to the part where we would drive through Iowa. Luckily, Claire has family in Iowa that were more than willing to offer us some Midwestern hospitality. Our time there was brief but long enough for one of the best diner breakfast meals I’ve ever had. Thank you Avoca, IA!

With 300 miles of Iowa to go, we were curious about what sights we would see. The consensus among the Iowans we chatted with was that the highlights would be some Amish folks and the largest truck stop in the world – how paradoxical! We didn’t catch any Amish unfortunately but we did spy many truckers along the way and at their globally acclaimed hangout. That place was a 3 story mega mall complete with a chiropractor, dentist, and every roadside souvenir you could imagine. (FYI: there is no tattoo parlor here) We drove through Des Moines to check out the capital and then carried on until Chicago!

Breakfast of Cowboys

We left Fort Collins surprisingly early and headed north to Cheyenne, WY. We stopped in town just long enough to mail some postcards and grab some breakfast burritos, and catch a quick glimpse of the capital. There wasn't a whole lot going on during our brief stop. Maybe it was too early to see folks on the street. Or maybe Wyoming is the least populated state in America...
